Information theory and generalized statistics
In this lecture we present a discussion of generalized statistics based on Rényi’s, Fisher’s and Tsallis’s measures of information. The unifying conceptual framework which we employ here is provided by information theory. Important applications of generalized statistics to systems with (multi–)fractal structure are examined.
متن کاملInteracting electrons, spin statistics, and information theory.
We consider a nearly (or quasi) uniform gas of interacting electrons for which spin statistics play a crucial role. A previously developed procedure, based on the extension of the Levy-Lieb constrained search principle and Monte Carlo sampling of electron configurations in space, allows us to approximate the form of the kinetic-energy functional. For a spinless electron gas, this procedure led ...

متن کاملInformation Theory and Statistics: A Tutorial
This tutorial is concerned with applications of information theory concepts in statistics, in the finite alphabet setting. The information measure known as information divergence or Kullback-Leibler distance or relative entropy plays a key role, often with a geometric flavor as an analogue of squared Euclidean distance, as in the concepts of I-projection, I-radius and I-centroid. The topics cov...
